Advanced Materials Centre of Research (AMCORe)

Our group is part of the Advanced Materials Centre of Research ( AMCORe ) within the Chemistry and Biochemistry department at the University of Windsor. AMCORe consists of a critical mass of researchers with complementary interests in synthetic chemistry, catalysis, materials chemistry, materials characterization, and materials applications. The centre allows for an institutional environment which encourages and enhances multidisciplinary, multi-group projects, and strengthens opportunities for new research collaborations with both academia and industry.

Essex Centre of Research (CORe)

Our research program is further supported by taking place in the newly opened Essex Centre of Research (CORe), a $30 Million world-class facility with state-of-the-art infrastructure (46,000 sq. ft.) dedicated to research, innovation, and industry collaboration.

Scientific Instrumentation and Equipment

Single-Crystal X-Ray Diffraction - Bruker D8 Venture

Picture
  • X-Ray diffraction for the analysis of single crystals and solid-state materials
  • Allows for the determination of absolute configuration, bond distances, bond angles, disorder, and electron density.
  • Optimized for compatibility with APEX4 Software

Powder X-Ray Diffraction:

Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PXRD) is used for the identification and quantification of solid-state materials and can also be used to monitor solid-state reactions/transformations. We use PXRD routinly to compare bulk material with simulated peak positions and intensities determined from single-crystal data.

PROTO LPD-HT (High-Throughput Screening)

PROTO AXRD Benchtop

  • Designed for high-throughput analysis of solid state materials with single or multiple phases
  • Collection of 96 samples from 0-55° (2θ) in 2-3 hours
  • High angular range 0-150° (2θ) and resolution (FWHM as low as 0.065°)
  • High accuracy of Δ2θ < ±0.02°
  • Wide angular coverage 1-150° (2θ)
  • Bragg Brentano Geometry (θ/2θ)

Intrinsic Dissolution Studies (UV-VIS Spectrophotometry):

Dissolution tests measure the rate of drug release from a dosage form (i.e., pharmaceutical tablet).
